Brenda’s Braids at Hepworth Central Public School
For a six week 'Brenda’s Braid Blitz', the Hepworth Central Public School Hawks outdid themselves once again!  On Friday May 24, the school community hosted the Canadian Cancer Society to participate for a second year in the Cops for Cancer campaign.  All money and hair donated goes directly back to children in the Owen Sound and surrounding area, who are fighting cancer.

Twelve individuals, which included students, teachers, a guest teacher, a former student, and one additional community member, donated their hair to the cause.  Additionally, three students shaved their heads, and nearly 20 participants had their hair chalked.  Each of these brave individuals raised anywhere between $5 and $1,500!  Classes also collected toonies, and the Hawks raised an AMAZING $5,400 to bring the school's two year event total to over $10,000!  This is quite an accomplishment for a small school community!

The Hawks would like to thank all the families who took part and supported their children with encouragement and help in collecting pledges.  The school invites anyone to get involved next year so that more hair donations can go to this wonderful cause!  Extra special thanks are also extended to hair dressers, Carol-Ann Williamson and Sabrina Gingrich, for their support during this worthwhile event.

Go Hawks Go!
